ShareAsale Affiliate Program Review – Can You Earn Money From It?

ShareAsale Affiliate Program

The reason for my ShareAsale affiliate program review is that for me it works, so of course it's only right that I share my experience with you.

In the past, I've tried a few affiliate programs and each one offers many strengths and weaknesses. For me, I've found that ShareAsale is definitely the strongest out of them all. Well I know that's probably quite a statement, but for me it's always worked to the point that I've ditched others.

Other affiliate marketing companies that I've tried were:

  • Adsense
  • Skimlinks
  • Commission Junction
  • Infolinks
  • Affiliate Window
  • JVZoo

I'm not saying these won't work for you because they could, at the end of the day it's all trial and error. For me though, none of the above brought in sufficient pocket money. In fact, as bad as Adsense can be and is renown for earning just pennies, it brought in the most out of the above list but definitely not enough.

In this article, I want to share with you what ShareAsale is all about, what I love about their affiliate program, its steps how to set your account up, plus how you could earn more than cuppa coffee money.

What is The ShareAsale Affiliate Program?

At ShareAsale there are thousands of companies within various niches wanting your custom to sell their products on your website.

In essence, that's not much difference to the other companies that I've listed above.

The difference is, the ShareAsale affiliate program does not permit CPM (Cost Per Thousand) or CPC (Cost Per Click); it only accepts Pay Per Sale (PPS) and Pay Per Lead (PPL).

With ShareAsale you know exactly what you're earning and you're in full control. Obviously, being in full control can have its disadvantages and because there's little support you're left to your own devices.

For me, this is all I've known so I just accept it as part of my job and have got used to it, so it's not a big deal to me.

Unlike some other affiliate programs, ShareAsale is easy to sign up to and there are little restrictions to joining. When requesting to be accepted by a company on ShareAsale, their usual request is to have a means to promote their product such as a website.

If you own a website, then there's little chance you'll be disapproved.

Another fabulous thing I've noticed is that you don't need to be a big shot to be accepted. Plus, there's no time limit to make money and you're account will never be closed down even if you don't make money.

Plus, with ShareAsale commissions are much higher than other affiliate programs, most of mine being as much as 50%.

Will ShareAsale Earn You more Than A Cup of Coffee?

If you're looking to move ahead in your blogging business and earn more than cup of coffee money, then check out what else I've got to say in this post.

I believe ShareAsale gives quality ads that every blog deserves, plus gives fab pocket money...

Click to Tweet

What do I mean by that Tweet statement?

It means that there's nothing worse than trying to read a blog article with cheap irrelevant ads that add little value to the content I'm reading.

Though I use other affiliates to make money on my site such as Thrive Themes, Wealthy Affiliate and a few more, the ShareAsale affiliate program adds even more bulk to my revenue.

Last month, I had over $1135 in my ShareAsale account...(updated April 2017). As to date, this figure is now rather consistent on a monthly basis).

How cool is that?

As you can see, ShareAsale gives me fab pocket money...

Why Do I love ShareAsale?

I love ShareAsale because it makes me money; but aside from that here are some other reasons:

  • Registration is simple and approval is fast
  • Once you're accepted, you'll find it's interface easy to use - I've never had any problems
  • You can become an affiliate marketer or a merchant
  • There are so many products to choose from that'll cover every niche type
  • You're offered Pay Per Sale (PPS) and Pay Per Lead (PPL) depending upon the company you sign up to
  • Ad links or banners are easy to find and add to your site
  • Adding your bank details to receive payments are easy unlike some which require verification
  • The ShareAsale affiliate program offers direct payment transfer to your bank account. If you prefer, payments can be made via cheque or by paypal - I use direct payment transfer because it suits my needs better.
  • Commissions are paid monthly - precisely 20th of each month
  • You can check current and past commissions and payments daily

How Does ShareAsake Work?

Today, I'm going to show you how to sign up step by step.

Step One: The Signing Up Process

Choose whether you're signing up to be a merchant (selling a product) or you want to promote a merchant as an affiliate marketer.

Assuming you're signing up as an affiliate marketer, you'll first need to create a username, password and select your location as in the image below.

Step Two: Primary Website Details

This step offers you to add your website details

Step Three: Your Email

I and many others have found that when signing up, it's better to use an email that's related to your site ie example@yoursite.com. This enables your registration to be approved much faster.

You can use Gmail, Outlook, Hotmail etc but you'll be required to verify your website so it will take a little longer.

Step Four: Your Contact Information

When filling out this step ensure your details are correct.

Step Five: Your Payment Details

This part is very important because you need to get paid for your effort.

Most people choose later, but of course it's entirely up to you. Initially I chose later, but when I started to receive commissions, I then added my bank details which took less than a minute to complete.

Step Six: Terms and Agreement

Here you're asked to read their Terms & Agreement. Though I'm not sure if anyone does, but hey I need to tell you that you need to do it and you need to tick the I Agree To The Above Terms box, plus click the Complete Application.

Step Seven: Confirmation Process

This is where is gets easier, you'll be sent an email confirmation which you must respond to in order for the application process to be initiated.

Once you click on the confirmation link, you will be redirected to ShareAsale to login into your new account.

When you've signed into your new account you will be directed to another page to verify signing up and that you've read the Terms and Conditions. Tick both boxes and click GO To My Account.

Getting Started with SareAsale

How to add merchants:

From here, you can join as many programs as you wish. Sometimes you'll be accepted straightaway, but other times you'll have to wait a few hours or days to be approved.

My suggestion to you is to only sign up to merchants within your niche. I believe that your niche and ads ought to tally together like a hand-in-a-glove.

Also, it's a good idea that you've knowledge of the merchants product that you want to promote. If you've zero knowledge it will show in your content and this means little or no sales.

To sign up to a merchant, click on the Merchant tab and then follow their instructions.

How to add links and banners:

One drawback to ShareAsale affiliate program links is that they're big and ugly; to get around this I use the Pretty Links plugin to hide their ugliness. I would suggest that you never use those ugly links as is because they'll really scare potential customers away.

Links can be added into your content, I do this all the time. Banners can also be added into your content and can be place in your footer, above your logo, right side of your logo or in your sidebar.

You can also add links and banners to social media, your landing pages and forums.

Once you're approved by a merchant, you'll be free to add their links and banners on your website. To add links or banners click on the Link tab and then follow their instructions.

My ShareAsale Affiliate Program Conclusion

There are pros and cons to everything including the ShareAsale affiliate program, so here is my view:

Pros to ShareAsale:

There are so many many products to promote that nobody is exempt finding products. If you're just starting out and wondering what niche to move into, I'd suggest you opt for a high paying merchant that is successful and popular.

Once signed in you'll find that the ShareAsale interface is very user friendly.

ShareAsale offer amazing performance tools so you're able to track how well you're doing.

The signing up process is simple, and being accepted by a merchant is quick and straightforward.

A selection of payments are offered and a no fuss direct transfer option.

Commissions are excellent and payments are always on time.

Cons to ShareAsale:

There is little communication available and you're pretty much left to your own devices. This can be quite demoralizing, but I'm glad I stuck it out.

If a merchant opts out of ShareAsale you're left in the dark, so in my opinion it's wise to keep a regular check if your merchants are still members.

Like any company, it takes time to get to know them, but once you familiar with how they operate it then gets easier. In my opinion, the best thing you can do is to spend sometime familiarizing yourself with its interface before adding links and banners to your site.
